Different project every episode. They usually come back later, a year or more later to see how they did and it's often gorgeous.

The formula is pretty basic. Family - usually with small children - buy a run down building for what they thing is a bargain because it's derelict, then spend their live savings and more on it to turn it into something you'd see in Architectural Digest. About halfway through, things get tense when they're over budget and the couple seem on the bring of breaking up, but it all turns out great in the end.

The episode I watched today stuck to that formula except the wife died of cancer halfway through the project. Dude.
