Every time I think I've found a decent budget road bike someone on reddit or some bike review site takes a dump all over it.

I don't know what good parts are vs. cheap parts and there are a lot of brands with a lot of models for each part. There's so much to know and it's all so expensive.

Used would be where I'd get a better bike for the price but I've had issues getting bad bikes that way and I'm just unsure of things like what a good derailleur is vs some cheap one, for example.

Ugh!! This is not a fun shopping experience. I bet it's awesome if you've got $1k to spend. :-)
