life *might* (and that's a big might) not have evolved if there wasn't a moon, but we'd probably be fine without it now.

assuming all the little pieces of exploded moon didn't rain fiery death down on us. moon also only accounts for about half the tide. there's the sun too. no moon would mean less variation in tides (like the spring/neap thing would pretty much vanish), but there'd still be tides.
