... the pandemic isn't over. Herd immunity hasn't been hit.
People who are fully vaccinated are much less likely to contract and retransmit the virus.
So it's medically sound for them not to be wearing masks.
The issue is, not everyone is rushing out to get vaccinated. There is a large percentage of Americans who won't. This percentage also overlaps with being the kind of selfish asshole who would say "It's OK, I was vaccinated" when they weren't.
Kids under 12 can't get vaccinated yet. Teens haven't been fully vaccinated yet. Immunocompromised and allergic people sometimes can't get vaccinated.
So creating this loophole for selfish assholes carries a real risk. If they happen to be infected, allowing them not to wear masks will run the risk of polluting indoor spaces with lingering infectious aerosols.
(Is there a vaccine passport for proving vaccination status? Or is it just relying on individual responsible behaviour?)

But, we also risk convincing people that there's no point to vaccination if none of the restrictions lift. "Vaccinated people don't have to wear masks

no passport, though hospitals/government could look up your medical records as the shot givers usually ask for your insurance number -- nm

I see what you mean but the chances of the anti-vaxxers ever following the advice of the CDC is close to zero.
