That's the gist indeed ... Dano's strategy is good because it saves ammo for late season pushes on guys but he's giving up the bonus he would get by

using some of those points in week 1 to build his net then. I suspect he likes the tradeoff because he gets more data to inform his decisions.
I spend points and extra scholarships in week 1 to get the bonus. I build a net of ~45 players and from them usually identify 2-4 prospects for clear leads below max.
My recruiting has been up and down to be sure. At the end of the day you have to win ties to land high ranked classes. The net strategy can help you land in the 80-150 ranked class range if you lose ties by helping you avoid walkons.
