Vans are a classic and are affordable while still looking good. I always recommend them to people unsure of what to get.

New Balance makes a very comfortable and stylish sneaker while being on the affordable side of things. They also have sales often.
They make really nice and high end sneakers as well. Their "Made in the US" and "Made in the UK" models are some of the best they make but are not affordable.

Even more stylish and affordable are Asics. I love Asics but some models run on the narrow side so keep that in mind.
