We've been using portable AC units and the one for our living room just can't hack it. We have side sliding windows and there aren't many options

for window units for these types of windows.
The cheapest good unit I could find, at the BTUs we need, is $530. Ugh.
When we bought the portable units we failed to take into account that we're on the top floor as well as the ceiling height which is above average for NYC at 12'.
The portable unit is keeping us from sweating but it's not comfortable in here.
We have one in the bedroom and it works perfectly but that room has an east facing window and is the smallest room in the apartment.
I've already put tinfoil on the windows to reflect the sun which helps. I just need to find a better AC unit and that's looking pricey.
