Wow, they found it fast.

My nephew never really had any ear infections, but on every checkup his ped would tell my sister that his eardrums were bulging and he give her a decongestent and go on. Tim didn't talk on time and when he did it was pretty unintelligible. Finally, when he was 4 1/2, Blue Cross approved a visit to a pediatric ENT doc, where it was discovered he was almost totally deaf. He got tubes 2 days later, but up to 50% of his hearing is gone. The ENT doc has said there is a surgery that could just about restore full hearing, but again, Blue Cross won't approve payment. The reason--they consider it experimental and their standards say that 50% hearing is "good enough".

My sister is so freaking pissed off. If he were on Medicaid, it would be covered. It's ridiculous.
