Yeah, I learned this via research shortly after I starting flying for work years back.

Flying overseas for work I would often choose a great exit row seat on the 777 right by door 3R or 3L. But I noticed the directions for opening the door were simply "pull this big handle up" and I was like 'uuuuhhhhhhh' because If figure there had to be a do-badder or a mentally unwell person who may do that. Research provided me the reassurances I needed.
I *STILL* would have been freaked out if I was on the flight in the original post though!
