You said they stole from Soundgarden, which doesn't track

Soundgarden is a mix of prog and speed metal, where Nirvana is punk mixed with fuzzed out Beatles melodies. (Grohl's drumming doesn't really define their sound)
Soundgarden wrote stuff in 7/4 time (by accident! Most of them couldn't read music, they just played what sounded good) where Kurt would have run screaming from a weird time signature.
