Pitchers are terrible hitters, are nearly always an easy out and at times are forced out of the game because of it when they would be

fine to go back out on the mound and keep pitching.

Also, the strategy argument is overrated. The coach normally only has to make one decision, when to pinch hit for the starter. The starter will very often bat for himself until the fifth or sixth inning and then be replaced. After that just about every pitcher that comes to bat is replaced if there's a bat on the bench. The added strategy is minimal and often non-existent in games.

Pitchers are bad hitters and replacing them with a guy that mashes the ball is more enjoyable to watch.
