I grew up with both. We have both an AL and NL team here and my entire immediate family are Mets fans. I pitched in HS and college. I want a universal DH. -- (edited)

It's a bit facetious to say it's like turning the game into a HR derby by adding one guy that hits well.
The pitcher is an automatic out and they're not going to get better at hitting when they don't get the same time to practice that others get. There are outliers but for the most part they're terrible and replacing them with a DH brings more offense to the game and allows the pitchers to go deeper instead of having to be replaced for a better hitter in a close game.
