More The Band! I've now listened to their first six studio albums once. It pains me every time I have to say it, but Spawn was right. -- (edited)

AFAICT, these include five albums of original material up to and including Northern Lights/Southern Cross and one covers album.
Yeah, The Shape I'm In is the jam that is my ear worm right now (dammit Spawn!). It appears on Stage Fright, which is my favorite The Band album so far in this cursory first listening.
Overall, I think I noticed a trajectory of a tight band becoming tighter over the years and a certain "sixties-ness" droppjng out (heh heh) of their sound over the first few albums.
Electric Dylan is an obvious comparison BUT since I am more familiar with another of their major influences, The Beatles, I'm comfortable comparing them to the less psychedelic parts of Let It Be and Abbey Road.
Also, I'm not sure how to express this as a rock fan, but The Band are refreshingly free of BS. :) No deadpan, no irony, no sarcasm that I can tell. Earnest Americana.
