So I and 5 friends and a puppy were 15 minutes too late to avoid the 3 hour long Mackinaw Bridge closure yesterday due to a bomb threat. We got

Turned around JUST 20 cars short of the toll booth. So we went up to the closest casino (Meg it was the one we stayed in when I kidnapped you North with me after TIFF that year). I went in ahead of the group and asked if they allowed service dogs, explained we were stranded and asked if we could hang out in their closed bar area with the dog and the security guard said “sure”. So in we went … including puppy … grabbed cocktails from the other open bar and hung out - when I got a text it had opened, we decided to grab food before leaving so as to avoid the line up that was undoubtedly there. Most of us had their chili … which is legit pretty tasty as well as cheap - like their drinks. As we were leaving the local Chamber director’s husband who came with us and his wife and their puppy said to me “this was a brilliant plan” and his wife, who is about a year now new on the job and my friends and I who plan and execute the Chambers major annual fundraiser are in the process of letting her into the “circle of trust” as we like her and think she stands an 80 to 85% chance of lasting in the job beyond 3 years … well - she texted me later from home asking my when we can plan our next adventure. Heh heh. Oh and their puppy? While very well behaved and trained for her age … totally NOT a service dog nor service dog in training. But then,!I never claimed she was … just asked if they were allowed … of course I inferred it’maybe - but no harm no foul. 😁 I love Michigan’s U.P. - truly a special place … and it was cool seeing all the big freighters and boats going under the bridge as we crossed later. For 3 hours they too had to wait on water for the all clear. Luckily for the Chicago to Mackinaw sail boat racers, it reopened before they got to that section.
