In response to "is it really easier for people to understand a fire the size of LA, or NYC, vs saying a 300 square mile area? -- nm" by tRuMaN

If someone tells me something is 300 square miles, I think two things

A) that's a lot of area
B) I wonder if someone can give me a reference point to something I know that is 300 square miles

Wither regard to B, telling me it's the same size as NYC, or Rhode Island, or 500 football fields, or something (fake examples, but you get the point) would help me a bit.

I realize 300 square miles is big. So is 100 square mile, 500 square miles, 1000 square miles. But in my brain, that's all I know, they are 'big'. I have no way to quantify them beyond that.
