My issue is to some extent distance. The distances are just a different level of existence from what I've done. Your 20 mile ride for example

That's the peak of a marathon training program for me.
But that's just so different that I can discount that
The longest time I've ever been 'running' is a bit over five hours and it damn near killed me as well as the beer with like two miles to go
Cyclists for their distance events spend 6, 7, 8 hours in the saddle. I think the only thing I've done that long is movie marathons
As well as even something like 2-3 hour ride is more routinely done. If I'm running for 2-3 hours something extraordinary is going on like training for a marathon or running a half
Time is universal so while the distances can't be compared, I think I can identify with time. Is it that much easier to spend 2-3 hours on a bike so that the scaling up to the cycling version of a marathon and spend 5-8 hours on the bike is reasonable?
