A lot of stuff is much simpler to repair than one thinks.

Depending how new your place ends up being, any plumbing outside the walls is pretty simple to deal with.
Lighting fixtures are pretty straight forward.
Get yourself a set of screwdrivers or a good cordless drill with bits for drilling holes, drivers for screws, and sockets for nuts. (Oh, the setup I just handed you....)
A claw hammer.
An adjustable, open-end wrench
Those tools will solve many problems.
