The more that comes out about Biles, the more it seems that USA Gymnastics did her wrong (surprise!)

She's basically got the gymnastics version of the yips, which for gymnastics is potentially dangerous. And yes, it's "mental", but the initial descriptions of it as such gave a tone like she was dealing with depression or something, which then let every Johnny Jackass lean into a culture argument. When the real explanation would have made sense from the get-go (some people would still have tried to make a thing of it, but there's always assholes). Just say the real reason - people understand things. So it's not heroic and it's obviously not abandonment - it's basically just like an injury.

The IOC, or whoever makes that decision, also didn't want her doing the stuff only she can do because no one else can do it. Which is bs. I also wonder if they'd do that to any man.

If she wanted to bow out for -any- reason, jackals on the internet can still suck it. Stop projecting your insecurities on others! -- nm

As someone who has a scar running down the back of his neck from getting lost in the air I certainly understand her decision.

Ideally, they (or she) shouldn't have to say anything other than she doesn't feel right and won't be competing. -- nm

Also, Japanese law means she can't take her ADHD medication while she's there (at least that's what I heard). That surely can't help. -- nm
