People used to abuse it to throw off other runners

deliberately false start in order to disrupt the race.

There's been more this time because without crowd noise it's easier to hear a noise and think that's the start, but the two I saw today were people clearly jumping the gun. It's not too much to ask them to stay in their blocks until it actually fires.
