Hmmm...maybe I was too narrow minded in my thought of the logistics. So half as many events per day but twice as many competitors and competetions -- (edited)

Friday, July 30: First rounds in the women’s 100m, the women’s 800m and the women’s 5000m
Friday, July 30: Finals in the men’s 10,000m, First rounds in the men’s 400m hurdles
So the above was this year's schedule.
100 meters: Preliminary round x 3 heats and Round 1 x 7 heats
800M: Round 1 x 6 heats
5000M: Round 1 x 2 heats
10,000M Final
400M Hurdles Round 1 x 5 heats
Sooooo....maybe separate by gender?
So both traditional and para first day womens 100M heats and so on.
