related: My name is unusual in the US but not in some other places, what is yours like? putting the meat inside this post (wow that sounds disgusting) -- (edited)

My name is uncommon in the US, very common in the UK (different spelling), was very common in Quebec in my age group.

Since the 80s, it turns out my name is a top five name for pets. This has led to quite a lot of weirdness. I was once besties with a friend whose dog had my name. She had to invent a nickname for the dog that she couuld use when I was at the house. It was seriously weird when we attended the same parties and also when I dog sat. There were many many years later I attended a party in the country where there were THREE dogs who had the same name as me, and wow. that was messed up. If I go to a dog park tomorrow morning there will be dogs with my name.

regarding my name with humans, I VERY rarely hear it in the US. Was very surprised to go to the UK and it was common. But if you really want to get my attention instantly ( and I am an infamous space cadet) say my name in French, I respond to it much faster. I never ignore it. ONLY my mother called me that. One time I went to LL Bean in Freeport with family (we've gone there for decades) and there are always french canadians. It was after my mother died. There was some lady who had a daughter with the same name, and we were apparently constantly in the same general area, she kept shouting it across the street. I kept freaking out every time and so did my sister.
