I was a portrait photographer in SF, the music group that did the famous Wizard of Oz disco hired me to do a group tableau, not quite Night Watch but.

they wanted to be shot as a hustlers hanging out in an alley, (to be fair, they hired me to screw the previous photog out of royalties, because a multi million selling album generates about a million to even the minor contributors, their agent made sure to contract me for a flat fee. I had no idea who they were at the time. but the original was b&w and shot 'day for night color' with a stack of filters like old movies used to do.

I didn't get paid for a LONG time, one day a lawyer comes by and gives me my check. apparently in the first wave of AIDS, aka HIV they all died, within months.

later I had a stream of customers who just wanted a photo to share with the few family and friends to remember them by. those were hard.
