They signed off on it because Christian is one of the most revered performers in the history of Impact and single-handedly gave the company a chance at survival when he joined them. Dixie Carter, who doesn't even have anything to do with them anymore, took time to applaud the move on social media.
The next person who wins the Impact title gets to say they beat a Hall of Fame level performer and one of the greatest ever. Compare that to the last few who say they beat Rich Swann, Eric Young, Eddie Edwards, and Sami Callihan. Cage TOWERS over that list. It's not even a conversation.
