The people in charge at Impact love Christian. The belt on him does more for them than putting it on one of the Impact guys. It's also something that AEW would sign off on. AEW isn't going to have someone from Impact beat the AEW champion. It also helps Impact to keep the belt on someone that will be on Dynamite and someone that has the name recognition Christian has.
They let someone like Swann take the belt from Omega and sure it looks great for Swann, but then all the people only watching because of the AEW connection (which is a sizable amount) stop watching. I am curious if the switch from Omega to Cage has a noticeable change in viewership.
Also, Cage isn't a WWE cast-off. I believe they wanted to sign him when he made his comeback, but he chose AEW. Given WWE booking and their releases, being a WWE cast-off isn't so.e horrible thing right now. At least, it shouldn't be viewed as such.
