Clarification, the arm 8s clamped to the old computer desk which is now a storage shelf, it holds my monitor out in front of my couch...

Being like a square serving platter, I have the flat screen and a clutter of junk, pens, telephone, TV remote, shot glass.
I can lean back in my couch, mouse on the arm, keyboard on my lap.
