With the announcement that they will 'continue the search for a new permanent host' what does that mean for the previous guest hosts?

Will they consider them or will they do this whole audition carousel thing again? If so, is it just to keep engaging audience curiosity and encouraging the higher ratings?
It seems like that dude stepping down reflects Sony TV reacting more to the stupid podcast stuff rather than audience unhappiness with their new host hiring process. If you ask me, the audience is just as disillusioned or more so by the fact that it seemed the EP was merely hiring himself under the guise of what seemed like an actual competition for the job, when it was anything but. If they try to start the hiring carousel back up again, won't it seem like more disingenuousness? This all seems like some shady boots to keep the ratings and interest high. And game shows have a storied history of being not exactly on the up and up. Wouldn't it be better to avoid more side-eye and scrutiny and pick someone from the previous guest host pool?
Do you guys know what I mean? I'm having a hard time expressing this.

I suspect this is code for "we'll see which past candidate we can agree to a contract."

Other than maybe Jennings, Richards was the only one that was going to want the job for 20 years. That's why they hired him. -- nm

I think, regardless, they need to give themselves time to work out scheduling/contracts with whoever takes over -- (edited)

Yeah, there were enough quality candidates to find a valid host from the group already done. -- nm

I'm with you. Theoretically , this could have been handled worse, but it takes a lot of imagination to see how. -- nm
