with how much I've seen him pay attention to politics, I would safely bet yes, he knows. I would rather have someone not just go through the motions

to appease others (whoever they may be, family, friedns) and possibly screw things up more.
i.e. if everyone says one vote counts, all it takes is one vote to screw things up
