I run our school’s spirit shop. It’s all run off an app on an iPad which we use to process credit card transactions. During a school day, we simply use the school WiFi. No issue.
During games though, we pack up some stuff and take it to the football stadium where the WiFi situation is,,,,precarious.
I spoke to our principal and he said he supported the idea of a personal hotspot. He and I agreed that it then had possible uses beyond a remote shop. Using it around campus, registering students in a pinch, remote learning, etc so he asked me to gather some information.
I went in and explained all that. I am a Verizon customer. My school district is as well. I have absolutely zero access to the district account. Don’t even know who does.
All I wanted were pricing options or even ballpark guesses all the way from me just adding the smallest one to my own account and using it personally to super high end options that could run multiple devices, etc.
They wouldn’t even hazard a guess without being able to log into the school districts account. Couldn’t say if it would be $30 or $100 a month. Wouldn’t high end it. Nothing.
I said ‘Can we just get all the pricing based on ME adding it to my account and assume that a corporate account would pay less?’
We can’t guess.
I understand. I’m not holding anyone to this number. But I understand the legions of red tape that await me when I come back and propose anything to the district. They are going to have questions. I need to have answers more than just ‘we can’t guess’.
‘Well it depends on their plan.’
And this is where they really lost me.
‘What is the most expensive possible plan that would be associated with this?’
Well there are dozens of unlimited plans.
HOW?!? I don’t think unlimited means what you think it means. I’m about to walk out of here unless someone gives me a remotely educated answer.
‘Then leave. I’m done. I’m not going to be harassed like this.’
I never raised my voice. I was trying to write things down and go back to my bosses with information. They weren’t interested.
