The ball was 60ft high (or more) and landed 3 feet from the net...it coming back doesn't take a ton.

just take a tennis ball at home, and spin it fast toward you...with a little arc to it. It'll spin back a few inches. Now, give it a 10ft high bounce and see how far back it'll spin.
