The best counter argument is Rod Laver because it's hard to compare because he missed out on 5 years of Grand Slams before the Open Era

He won 11 Grand Slam tournaments in total.

In 1962 he won the Calendar Year Grand Slam and then turned Pro, which made him ineligible to compete at Grand Slam tournaments until they became Open Tournaments in 1968. He then won the Calendar Year Grand Slam in 1969.

You'd have to think he would have won many more Grand Slam tournaments had he been allowed to compete.
