'Tis interesting. We had options nearby (Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, and a Chinese place), but I had to earn my own money to eat there.

My dad gave me cash with two options: pay for school lunches, or purchase my own groceries at the store to pack my own lunches.
Going home wasn't an option -- that was a 6-mile trip and I never had a car.
