Just my opinion, but my thought was that in the beginning, the GOP attempted to sow the seeds of distrust of vaccines to particularly impact people of color (or at least help push that needle a bit further).

Once they realized it was impacting their actual base, they've backed off it.

I think the breakdown of people dying of COVID by political party would be interesting data.
