It's no different than what Bruckheimer did with Pirates of the Caribbean. Take a generic idea, throw a marketable name on it and run with it

Seriously, how much of the new G.I. Joe movie looks like it has anything in common with the G.I. Joe dolls from the past?
Asteroids will be some generic sci-fi action movie with lots of shooting that will tangentially have something to do with an asteroid
