Hey tech people question about upgrading my NAS/ HDDs.

So I have a synology 920+ with 4x4TB drives. I'm not quite out of room but getting closer than I'd like (I underestimated my requirements.) I'm finding conflicting info about upgrading. First should I just buy a larger NAS, get an expansion, or just get larger HDDs?

If going with the HDD option, I'm using SHR for the parity. I can only swap 1 drive at a time and then initialize that drive but it won't take full effect of the drive. But then once that drive is striped, I can swap out a second drive and then initialize that one and be good to go, right?
