Anecdotal evidence: i know that party politics doesn't come into play for municipal elections, but Toronto elected John Tory as mayor, and generally all the bleeding heart liberals i know really like him.

The man was the head of Conservative Party for Ontario for years - we all know he is a Conservative - but, he still won in Liberal Toronto by a landslide.

People can see individuals.
