I think they’ve managed to do that on two lines in NYC after spending the last ten years or so upgrading the signal system -- (edited)

Those are also the only two lines that don’t share tracks which makes it easier. Usually you’re looking at rush hour headways of 3-5 minutes for a given line, iirc, but depending on where you are and where you’re trying to get to, you might have multiple options coming every minute or two.

They’ve also added countdown clocks in the stations to tell how far away the next train is.
