I think he would have started for the Pats eventually. The injury just sped things up. -- (edited)

Not many people remember that Bledsoe came back and played in the AFC title game against Pittsburgh in 2001. But they put Brady in for the Super Bowl because he outplayed Bledsoe even while healthy.
IMO, it would have been a Romo situation eventually (Who also replaced Bledsoe).
