Pretty well thought out argument. But something has to be said for tradition.

So elections are on Tuesday? So what?
So the electors don't cast the ballot until 40 days after the fact? So what?
Would it matter - would it change anything - if elections were on Monday and electors casted their vote 14 days after the fact?

the electors are no longer needed. they have no right to 'vote' as in 'to decide', they're just puppets with no opinion of their own. -- nm
