1) Kind of brilliant to lull us into that sense of "well there will always be another plot twist so it can't be Jan" and then twist it the other way. I know some say they had Jan tabbed but I didn't see anyone talking about it - in fact quite the opposite on the backboards, myself included so I was perfectly happy to be "surprised".
2) As soon as it became apparent Charles was poisoned I turned to my watching partner and said "oh we're in for a treat, Steve Martin is a master of physical comedy" and he didn't disappoint. Time to watch All of Me again.
3) Bold but sensible to make Jan just a straight up psycho, would be hard to contextualize her and Charles' relationship otherwise. At the end of the day, we didn't really know Jan. Her bit about "I just hate being second" was set up early when she was discussing past relationships with Charles on their date. Yes, it's a little out there, but it also helps they had Amy Ryan to sell it - tremendous heel turn performance from her.
4) Another thing that didn't happen that I thought would - Tina Fey, fresh off her $30MM payday, moves into the Arconia to set up S2.
5) The decision to keep the finale to a brisk 36 minutes was another bold and effective choice.
Overall season grade - A. Loved just about everything about it.
