jnine, it looks like discounts ended in 2017. so just go buy a phone and settle in for a call to verizon.

you will want to get a new sim eventu if you are switching from 4G to 5G. your phone will still work with a 4G sim as long as it's the right size, but not optimally. verizon should be able to fedex you a sim when you call to activate phone (they did to me) -- the bad news is that you'll have to call again when the sim arrives to activate that.
what you'd be doing at verizon is *technical* customer service, not *sales* customer service. very different units.
