I'm the same way, I question if high schoolers can really comprehend the depth of his work until later, making that study inefficient.

Rather than just an assigned reading I'd prefer they get a class on linguistics and history - highlight idioms and word origins, but save the single play study for performance class or college. Hearing Shakespeare spoken is as important as reading it anyway.
