If the sum of the digits of a number is wholly divisible by 3, then that number is wholly divisible by 3.

12 is 1+2 = 3, which divides by 3
81 is 8+1 = 9, which divides by 3
921 is 9+2+1 = 12, which is 1+2 = 3, which divides by 3
