Isn't it the opposite? The longer your starter goes, the longer you keep your DH?

Take out the starter and then you have to either have the pitcher hit for themselves or pinch hit.

This sounds like it was based on how Maddon had to juggle his lineup if one of Ohtani's starts went short.

Ohtani pitches well, he gets to hit for himself (his own DH?) 2,3,4 times. He doesn't and the Angels lose their starter as well as one of their best hitters for the rest of the game
