I had a post eaten that my wife had the same choice (fusion vs disk replacement) and they did disk replacement because of her age. Fusion has a bigger effect on mobility so they suggest replacement now for younger patients.
Disk replacement has never been done on an NHL player. In theory, he'll have better side-to-side mobility in exchange for a longer recovery period. In theory.
