"Hiring cops" seems a bit much.

That's not a cop's job. That the whole premise of "defund the police". Police should do policing, not enforcing rules and doing safety checks. Calling on having the police do it was a way to deflect from conservatives trying to scapegoat him.
Productions should be obligated by their insurance companies to have safety measures in place and professionals licensed for this type of business. WHICH IS WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAD!
