I love pie, but I like more types of cake than I do pie.

A good apple pie is better than any cake. But after that, it's dicey. Peach is tasty. Cherry is usually okay, but not great. Gotta be in the right mood for blueberry or blackberry. Don't even get me started on savory pies. Those aren't "pie" so much as dinner in a bread pocket.
But cake? White, yellow, chocolate, carrot, etc. Then buttercream frosting or other types. Are they double layer? Multi-layer? Do they have toppings or garnishings? Angel food is even okay with strawberries or blueberries and cream.
Then the question is are cupcakes a subset of cake, or their own thing?
Cake has a wider variety of styles and presentations than pie, so cake wins.
Oh. German chocolate. That's almost as good as apple pie.
