In response to "My Dune review - spoilers -- (edited)" by 17 Paragraph Mel

Hi Mel! I was in the minority that was not a fan of the movie. Spoils

I had not read the books and I found the lack of exposition really limiting. I don't love when films do too much exposition, but in this case it felt like we were either assumed to already know stuff or they're doing too slow a burn. I found large parts either inscrutable or, in the alternative, to make sense of things, I just had to overlay typical sci fi tropes. So it was either too vague or too trite.

I agree it was visually impressive. I really dislike the score though (and I love Hans Zimmer). To me it was just constant, never ending droning and almost unbearably loud (which is part the theater). It often obscured what little dialogue there was. Javier Bardem was great and my favorite scene was towards the end with the Freman. It was quiet. Things happened. People spoke. It made some sense. It just made the rest more disappointing for me.

Maybe future movies will build things out, but I'm not sure I'm prepared to sit through it.
