Watching Master Chef Australia. One of the demonstration ingredients is rum. Contestant says "we can't always get rum. Can we use something else." ?

Is rum sometimes hard to find in Australia?
Responses:
Maybe if they’re weirdly remote? I’ve never had trouble. There’s always Bundy. -- nm

Rum's not exactly hard, it's just sugar cane juice. Does southeast Asia have sugar cane like the caribbean? Latitudinally it would make sense. -- nm*

Loads of it in Queensland. Bundy is Bundaberg, Queensland rum from Australian sugar cane.
