The Diller family's corporation owned both Viacom and CBS. Paramount is an asset of Viacom. They own Viacom and CBS because once Viacom and CBS (or, more accurately, Paramount and CBS) were the same company, but they were split up into two companies a long time ago. Which is why Paramount would put out Star Trek movies but CBS would broadcast Star Trek TV shows. Finally, after a lot of drama, Viacom and CBS were merged into one. But CBS had a streaming service that they launched ages ago (the roots of CBS All-Access go back to the original RealPlayer live feeds for Big Brother). While in the meantime, Paramount had a series of cable channels (Paramount Network) and streaming services (Paramount+) overseas (Europe, South America). CBS All-Access was seen as a featherweight streaming service so it was "re-launched" but really it was merged with Paramount+ and re-branded as Paramount+.
