While this is the right course of action, it may not be the best course of action.

Depends in part on when the election is. If you have time, keep the mandate in effect through the new year. That would be safest. Best would probably be to make sure a Dem stays in power, because that's the only chance of bringing back the mask mandate if needed after the election.
